Your boss added you to the Scooper app. This page shows you how to set it up and use it. It takes about 3 minutes.
What this app is for
Your business has an AI assistant that answers customer texts. It has a name, usually a dog name. When it needs a person, it sends you a ping. You tap, answer, and get back to work.
You do not need to be good with phones. Most things are one tap.
Step 1: Find your invite email
Your invite comes by email from Scooper Agent. It has a Join button with your business name on it. The invite has no code. When you sign in inside the app, a second email arrives with a 6-digit code, so keep your email handy.
Step 2: Put the app on your phone
iPhone
You must do this, or alerts will not work. iPhone needs iOS 16.4 or newer.
- Open the invite link in Safari. If it opened inside Gmail, Outlook, Facebook or Instagram, the page says Open in Safari. Follow the steps it shows, usually the menu button, then Open in Safari or Open in browser.
- Tap the Join button. It shows your business name, for example Join Westside Scoop Co.
- Tap the Share button. It is the square with an arrow pointing up, at the bottom of the screen.
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Tap Add in the top corner.
- Go to your Home Screen and open Scooper from the new orange dog icon.
- The app asks you to sign in. Type your email and tap Email me a sign-in link.
- Open the new sign-in email. Do not tap its button. Type the 6-digit code from it into the app and tap Sign in with code.
From now on, always open it from that icon.
Android
- Open the invite link in Chrome.
- Tap the Join button. It shows your business name, for example Join Westside Scoop Co.
- Tap Install if it pops up. If not, tap the three dots at the top right, then Add to Home screen or Install app.
- Open Scooper from the new orange dog icon. If it asks you to sign in, type your email and tap Email me a sign-in link. Then type the 6-digit code from that new sign-in email and tap Sign in with code.
Step 3: Turn on alerts
Do this inside the app you just opened from the icon. On iPhone the button does not show on the Safari page.
- Tap Turn on alerts.
- When your phone asks, tap Allow.
- Tap Send a test ping. You should get a ping in a few seconds.
No ping? Check that the app is opened from the Home Screen icon and that notifications are allowed for Scooper in your phone’s settings. Still nothing? Ask your boss.
What a ping means
A ping means a customer is waiting and the assistant needs a person. It starts with “Needs you:” or, for something that cannot wait, “Urgent:”. Tap it. It opens the exact item. Tapping a ping never sends anything by itself.
You will not get a ping for things that are already done. Those go to a quiet list.
If you are office staff
You have four tabs: Needs you, Chat, Done and More. Each item in Needs you shows the customer, what they texted, and a reply the assistant wrote.
- Tap I’ll take it so nobody else answers the same customer. Everyone else sees “Claimed by” and your name.
- Read the reply.
- Tap one:
- The main button, which names what it does, like Send reply: sends it as written.
- Edit: change the words, then send.
- Don’t send: drops the reply. Pick a reason if you want, then tap Don’t send it. (For a change that is not a text, the buttons say Don’t do it.)
You will see Sent. when it goes out, and later Delivered.
Some items say Owner decides. Those are for the owner, usually because money is involved. You can see them, but the owner makes the call.
Need to see the full conversation? Tap Open in Quo.
If the assistant asks you a question (“Is Marco out today?”), just answer it.
If you are a tech
You have three tabs: Today, Chat and My alerts. You only get pings about your route. Big buttons, made for gloves:
- I’m out today
- Running late (then pick 15, 30 or 60 minutes)
- Can’t access a yard (then pick the stop and a reason)
- Done for today
Each one asks you to confirm before it sends. Tapped the wrong one? Tap Undo within 10 seconds.
Some pings ask a yes or no question, like “Did you make it to the Browns?” Tap Yes or No. If you tap No, pick when you will get to it: By 3pm, By 5pm or Not today.
That is it. You never approve texts or anything about money. Your answer helps the assistant tell the customer the truth.
No signal? Tap anyway. The app sends it when you are back online, and you can cancel it until then.
Quiet hours
By default you will not get pings from 9pm to 7am. Things that can wait are held until morning.
A few things still come through at night because a customer needs help now: a missed visit, a complaint, an injury, a dog bite, or damage to a yard.
To change your hours, open My alerts in the app (techs have it as a tab, office staff find it under More). You can make your quiet hours longer, not shorter.
Text alerts (later)
Text alerts are not switched on yet. Later on, if you miss a ping, you may also get a text from Scooper Agent with a link, but only if you say yes to texts. The app does not ask yet. It will ask before any text is sent. Tap the link to open the item. You cannot answer by replying to the text. Reply STOP to stop these texts. Details are on the SMS consent page.
